ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC will replace Clarence Seedorf as the Rossoneri’s number 10 jersey wearer.
Seedorf confirmed his exit today (Thursday) after 10 beautiful and successful years in the red & black jersey and it has already been decided who will the take his Number 10 shirt next season: Ibrahimovic.
Ibra asked for this jersey when he was signed from Barcelona back in the summer of 2010 but it was occupied at the time. However, now that Seedorf is out of the team, the striker is getting the iconic number.
The number 10 shirt will be given to Zlatan Ibrahimovic,” confirmed Adriano Galliani at Seedorf’s farewell press conference. “I never asked for the 10, I inherited it from Manuel Rui Costa. But I’ve spoken to Ibra and told him that I would be pleased if it was passed to him – he deserves it,” Clarence then commented.
“Ibra and I talked about it a while ago in the shower in the changing rooms. I told Ibra that if I left Milan, then I would be happy to see him wearing the number 10 shirt at Milan,” Seedorf later told Sky Sport 24. Ibrahimovic has been Milan’s No. 11 for the past two seasons but he’ll now use the number he uses in the Swedish national team squad. Ibra’s Euro 2012 adventure is already over as Sweden got knocked out.
Seedorf joined Milan in 2002 from city rivals Inter and it took Milan “15-20 days” to convince Seedorf. He surely doesn’t regret agreeing. The player won many titles with Milan including the Champ. League twice.
“Seedorf has often played well for Milan in these 10 years. Seedorf played 43 matches on average per year at Milan. That’s an amazing feat. I don’t know if anyone will manage to beat that record. Seedorf has won 4 and a half Champions League titles and he knows why. Seedorf won the CL with Ajax, Real Madrid and Milan, but he also won half a Champions League title with Real Madrid before he went to Inter. Seedorf has had an extraordinary career and when we played well, Seedorf played well. This is the absolute truth.”
Galliani also confirmed that Milan are “still missing a midfielder to make the squad complete” and said that Seedorf can do anything he wants in his future: be a coach, a director or work in international institutions.
